What an exciting and unexpected surprise I had a few months ago when shopping for paint. It wasn’t the Sherwin-Williams store that made my day, but the fifteen minutes that I took to wander into Orange Tree Antiques Mall while waiting for my paint order to be filled.
If you are like me, you’ve probably driven by this location a hundred times. Nestled in-between a Sherwin-Williams Paints and a Moe’s Southwest Grill in the Oakley Center strip mall, this antique store does not even attempt to broadcast it’s presence. The signage may be simple and unpretentious, but just enter through the nondescript double doors and you’ll feel as if you have just opened a hidden treasure chest. So much to see, you won’t know where to start.
When you enter the shop, you’ll be greeted by the cheerful clerks stationed at the large check-out counter facing the front door. Be prepared to check any bags and large purses in the handy lockers located there. If you are not comfortable checking, it might be best to leave them in the car. This is a really nice feature, as it leaves you hands-free to check out the items while eliminating the fear of bumping into things while browsing the crowded isles.
Every day you can find new items as the 140 dealers are always rotating and rearranging their inventory to fill the 15,000 sq foot mini-mall. Yes, that’s 15,000 sq feet of unique, specialty shopping. From the outside, it looks like it might be just a little one room boutique shop.
So, you wandered through the entire shop looking for that one, special item that will complete your knick-knack collection and didn’t find it… All is not lost. Ask at the front desk and they can immediately text all 140 vendors to see if one of them might have it in their collection.
If the already reasonable prices aren’t enough for you, venture in during one of their seven annual store-wide, four day sales weekends. You can always find a flyer on the counter with the dates of the next event, or like their Facebook page for updates. Be ready for crowds as the events usually bring in 1200 – 1400 shoppers, dealers and browsers. Discounts are generally between 10-30%. Signs throughout the shop will list which discount applies to each area.
I’m now a regular at Orange Tree Antiques. It’s an inexpensive and fun place to go and reminisce. At every turn I’ll find something that I remember from my mom’s china cabinet or Aunt Betty’s kitchen – items that we may have taken for granted at the time but are now triggers for happy memories. Leave a reply below and tell us about some of the fun treasures that you came across at Orange Tree Antiques.
